triamcinolone acetonide

Definitions
The acetonide salt of triamcinolone, a synthetic glucocorticosteroid with immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory activities. Triamcinolone binds to specific cytosolic glucocorticoid receptors, which subsequently interact with the glucocorticoid receptor response element on DNA, gene expression is altered so that the synthesis of certain anti-inflammatory proteins is induced while the synthesis of certain inflammatory mediators is inhibited. Consequently, chronic inflammatory and autoimmune reactions are reduced.
